Hello! I had a question as a newb. I've had this oak for a couple years now and I did a trunk chop on it earlier this year. I was going to get peoples input on what to use as a leader and if I should leave the other branches alone for now. Thanks!

I have bought my wife a new Japanese bonsai for Christmas this year. I know it should be put outside but we're in middle of winter with a storm. Can it go outside in middle of winter. Thanks
The difficulty is that you have to envision what this will look like years down the road including how tall it is, where the transition from the current trunk to the new trunk from the selected leader occurs, and where the branches are going to be.
A couple of things I have learned.
Select for the new leader a branch that is closer to the chop AND emerges mostly vertically. In future that angle is easier to make work than a branch that emerges perpendicular.
Places where you have multiple branches emerging from the same spot reduce to one as you would see on a tree.
You have a number of years of letting this run and all the branches elongating and thickening, and then reduction.
Hi, I don't have a lot of good advice for you (never had the guts to do such a heavy trunk chop! :) ) except that you might get more attention and answers if you post to the RMBS Facebook group. There tends to be more activity over there than on these forums. https://www.facebook.com/groups/187924570086638
