About the event
Kintsugi, or "golden joinery," is the centuries-old Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending fractures with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Rather than hiding damage, this technique highlights it, transforming broken, cherished objects into unique, more beautiful pieces.
In this demo, you will learn about traditional techniques, materials, and methods used to repair broken pottery originating from Japan. While repairing a pot traditionally can take many weeks, participants will leave with an understanding of what it takes to repair a pot. If you have a broken pot, feel free to bring it for repair evaluation.
