Item #1:Yamadori Englemann Spruce

Description: This Englemann Spruce was collected in Colorado in 2017 and is well established in its pot. It has a bluer needle color than what’s usually seen on Englemann’s. It’s in a brown ceramic pot that measures 12” x 7” x 3”. The tree stands 17” tall - including the pot – and has a 1.5” trunk. This beauty is healthy and ready to be styled.

Item #2: Complete bonsai tools set and carrying case

Description: Housed in a canvas Joshua Roth tool roll is a complete set of bonsai tools along with along with other adjunct items. The tools are from a variety of high-quality makers and included is a fabric California Leather Craft carrier.

Description: This is a very large, used Chinese pot decorated with a mountain scene with a homestead. The motif is repeated on all four sides of the pot. The interior dimensions of this high quality item is 21”L x 14.5”W x 6”D.

Item #4: Handcrafted Maple Bonsai Stand

Description: This is a high quality, used, large Chinese pot decorated with Chinese characters which is repeated on all four sides of the pot. There are 4 tiedown holes with mesh screens already in place. The interior dimensions are: 19”L x 14.5”W x 5.5”D.

Item #6: Yamadori Ponderosa Pine

Description: This Ponderosa pine was collected by Bob Randall and stands 30” tall. It is well established in a deep, black glazed hexagonal pot that is 8” tall. The trunk has lots of movement with an abundance of branches to offer styling options.

Item #7: Ficus Microcarpa Bonsai

Description: This is believed to be a Ficus microcarpa and is a large specimen. Standing 21” tall, it is in a round, ceramic pot with a chop on the bottom. The pot is 12” in diameter and is 5” deep. From the photographs, it appears to not only be a healthy tree but to also have at least a couple of choices for a front.

Description: If you’ve been wanting to do various carving techniques on your trees or get into wood carving, this is for you. Here are the specifics about this Foredom K.5240 Electric Woodcarving Kit.

1 . Series SR Motor: Foredom’s best motor for most uses. The 1/6 HP, ball bearing, hang-up style M.SR runs in forward and reverse at speeds up to 18,000 RPM. Item #9: Yamadori Englemann Spruce

Description: Collected July 2020, this Englemann spruce is healthy but needs to be given another year in this container to become well established and ready for styling and/or heavier work. The main trunk is straight but flexible and could be wired to add movement. It is 26” tall and 36” wide. It is in a 9.5”L x 7”W x 2.5”D pot.

Item #10: Yamadori Pinion Pine

Description: This Pinyon pine was collected spring of 2021 so would benefit from waiting a year to begin light, initial styling. It stands 14” tall and 23” wide. It is healthy and already in an appropriately sized pot which is 10”W x 3”D. This is a really nice tree with a dramatic curve in the trunk and nice deadwood on the trunk (shari).

Item #11: Yamadori Ponderoda Pine

Description: This is a tree that is healthy, robust, and thriving. It is 51” tall and 36” wide. Mike feels that the height could be reduced by at least 12” and the width could be reduced by about half or more. The trunk curves into the soil and the base is 6” at the widest point. Pot is 20.5”L x 15”W x 5.5”D.

Item #12: Trident Maple Stock Bonsai

Description: 4 trident maple whips imported from SC this year. Very young (2yrs) and vigorous. Zip-tied together to make a clump style bonsai, these could also be separated to make a forest planting, or used in root-grafting. This fast growing species will need to be protected during the winter. Overall height about 2 feet at this time. In production Chinese container.

Item #13: Elephant bush pre bonsai, portularia afra

Description: This is a 6 year old Portulacaria afra that started its development styled as a double trunk tree. It is 12” tall with a 12” wide canopy and a 2” trunk. It is in a plastic nursery pot. A fast grower, it is well on its way to becoming a fine bonsai.

Item #14: Yamadori Subalpine Fir PreBonsai

Description: This 30+ year old Subalpine Fir has been in a pot for 18 years. Standing about 24” high, it has wonderful nebari and interesting bark. Like a Spruce, this Fir will back bud. It is currently in a plastic training pot.

Item #15: Yamadori Single Seed Juniper Bonsai

Description: This Yamadori Single Seed Juniper stands 26” high with a 3” trunk diameter at the base. It is currently planted in a deep, plastic 15”L x 10.5”W pot.

Item #16: Windswept Tree Painting

Description: This original painting by fine arts artist (www.lindapaul.com), and RMBS member, Linda Paul, shows a windswept tree in shades of gold, green, rust, and white. It is acrylic on 24”L x 24”W x 1.5” D canvas and is ready to be hung. Here is the artist’s statement about the piece:

This painting is truly a case of art imitating life. I used only acrylic paint, drinking straws and the power of my lungs to make the patterns much as the wind creates the shapes of our Colorado mountain pine trees. I started working with bonsai trees in fall of 2020 as an additional creative outlet. I was immediately enchanted and obsessed with my little tree babies and even built a special garden for them with rocks from our Mountain property.

We are fortunate to have Todd – who is internationally renowned and an outstanding professional bonsai artist - as an RMBS member. Spend a half day with him planning the direction to take your tree(s), doing scary branch bends, refining older trees, or any other bonsai needs that would benefit from his expertise.

Item #20: Chinese Doban

Description: It is a large, oval unglazed ceramic doban, from China, suitable for suiseki display or, with carefully drilled drainage holes, could also be used as a container for a mounded forest planting. Exterior dimensions are 15.5” x 21.5” x 1.5”. Interior dimensions are 13.75” x 20” x .875”.

Item #21: Two Chinese Doban

Description: These are two small unglazed ceramic dobans, from Japan, suitable for suiseki display. Interior dimensions of the smaller one are 8”L x 5”W ; interior dimensions of the larger one are 11”L x 7.5”W. With some carefully drilled drainage they could also be used for kusamono plantings.

Item #23: Yamadori Englemann Spruce

Description: TThis Engelmann spruce was collected in 2018 or 2019 by Backcountry Bonsai, WY (DanWiederrect and Steve Varland). The tree stands about 15” tall and is in a wooden training box measuring approximately 15”L x 6”W x 6”H. This little beauty is established and healthy with lots of styling options.
