I starting to look ahead to next spring's repotting and next years growing season and have been struggling to find local sources for some materials. As convenient as online shopping has become these days, I still like to find local sources for some things when possible. Searching through past posts it seems there aren't any places that carry our normal soil components for "finished" trees.
Are there places that sell pine/fir bark for repotting in nursery containers?
Bulk screen? It seems like the online places only have little chunks of screen.
Anderson flats, 1020s, and other containers for developing trees?
I just saw Southwest Gardens post they have 40lb bags of pumice in stock (not sure of the particle size). You can also find red lava rock at Echters; though, it is probably more economical to order online where you'll get a more uniform particle size in larger quantities. Reptile stores also sell bags of fir bark. And Fantasy Orchid in Louisville may have bags of smaller bark used for orchid seedlings. No dice on akadama locally though...
Not aware of any. The club generally buys bulk once / twice a year, and members can get some as part of that. It might be worth asking in our Facebook Group as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/187924570086638/
