Hey Dan, here is my amur maple that was cut back from nursery stock a few months ago. Very much in development stage. Will be a much smaller tree in the future. Just turned colors down here in Denver and enjoying a few day respite indoor as a seasonal table piece.
That is an incredible hornbeam! I have planted bare root American hornbeams with no success. Have you learned anything specific about repotting or root work with this species?
Nothing really specific. I've re-potted this tree twice, but never bare root. I've always done it just as the buds are swelling and beginning to turn green.
I wonder, was your seedling source reputable? I've ordered Korean maple seedlings from a couple of places. One was awesome and the other sent a bunch of half dead trees that turned out to be some other type of maple entirely.
I'd definitely love to try American hornbeam too. (Ps.. I've noticed a guy selling several collected American hornbeams on the facebook auction sites this spring.)
I ordered my bare root seedlings from Cold Stream Farms in MI. The ones I ordered didn't make it, but bare root material is super cheap so no loss. For hornbeams in particular I think bare root is a bad idea in our climate. I will let you know if I find another source.
Thanks Dan. What a beautiful tree. My maples are yet to turn and were due for 3" of snow in 3 days... Hopefully have some pics to add here soon...

p.s. you should post some of that hornbeam here also!
Looking good Andy!
Here's that hornbeam. This is the same tree that was in the 50th show this year for anyone wondering. :)
Who made your pot? I like it.

Hi Paul,
I'm sorry I must have missed your comment!

If you have a source for seedlings that is worthwhile, I would also be interested.
