I planted this mixed conifer forest this spring and one of the lodgepoles pines is not looking happy. It was going really strong, then it just started not looking well... looking the worst after this big rain we just had.

I can't speak to what is going on with this Lodgepole, but whenever I plant a multiple tree group with seedlings I plant more than I actually want long term assuming I may lose one.
